You never know.....

SO, my daughter came home from school today with this in her backpack. You never know when your kids are watching you, apparently I don't know when my kids are watching me. I can only imagine what her teacher must be thinking!

Nesting

I have to say with the change in the weather and trying to get back into a routine, I am doing some major "nesting". It's funny because this time last year I was pregnant and still trying to get a grip on that. I feel like I am finally easing back to a comfortable reality. There's so much that needs to be done. I have so much stuff in my house and nowhere to put it, but I also have an urge to go out and get more stuff. It's a vicious cycle of stuff.

Lucky Me!

So, a lady at church was giving away a sewing machine. I told her that I would be happy to have it. As it turned out a friend of hers mother had passed away and just needed to get rid of it. SO she shows up at church yesterday with the sewing machine and all the rest of the woman's sewing supplies! I never just come into anything like this, I'm very excited! Here's some highlights...
...... Lots of beautiful ribbon......
.....a box full of wooden and plastic spools of thread.... Her button box(!!!!).......
And a 1972 Singer sewing machine, complete with button holer, which I'll give to my Mom for Christmas, Merry Christmas Mom!

Dreams do come true!

There are a few things in my life I never thought I would be so completely geeked out about. The first one was a minivan. I feel weird saying it, but I'm really quite thrilled to have one. The other one is a Dyson vacuum. Who gets so completely excited about getting a vacuum? Well, I sure did when my honey surprised me with this amazing Dyson as an early birthday present. Isn't it great?! I'm off to vacuum all the floors vents, fan blades and anything else I can think of.
***UPDATE*** I just got done vacuuming my house and just about gagged! I can't believe the stuff that that amazing machine picked up! I think I'm going to go vacuum everything again just to be sure. I'm having such a great time. I am a nerd!

Secret Santa Christmas Swap

I'm so excited about doing this swap! I always start planning Christmas things around August, so this fits in just beautifully. I'm really eccited too, because I got hmmmmmmmmm from hmmmmmmmm. I checked out her blog and am planning on making her hmmmmmmmmm and hmmmmmmm. I hope hmmmmmmm is excited, because this is going to be great! I did notice some bloggers were posting some of their faves to help their partners out, so I thought I'd do the same.
My favorite colors combos are green/brown, blue/brown and pink/brown. I really like brown.
My favorite artist is Frida
I love folk art. I enjoy knitting and embroidery. I like working with felt. My three kids keep me happily busy, but if I have a break late at night, I enjoy watching lifetime movies or taking a bath-by myself. I like to read funny books and write letters to people. I love baking and painting. I wish I had more dates with my husband, knew more about quilting, lived somewhere that had rain, but no snow. I hate the feel of wet dog food, not having a project to work on, hair behind the bathroom door, and getting to the post office with three kids.
I hope that helps you if you need it secret swap partner!

6 months

I can't believe it's been 6 months already! This has got to be the best reason for not getting anything done.

Freezer paper applique

I remember when Moki and I got together and figured out how to do freezer paper applique. There's been no turning back since then. I am constantly amazed at the intricate little shapes and such that you can make out of material with a finished edge using this method. This is a "tea party" baby kimono shirt I did last year for a friend. I'm working on a new one right now, but can not post pics, since they would ruin the suprise. Also, if I can make it to the post office this week, buttons will be coming out to all you button swappers very soon, I hope you're excited, because they are sooo cute!!

Fall

Thanks to my amazingly not so great digital camera here is a picture of my apple pie that was amazing! This is our last weekend before school starts. I'm ready for the change to come about though. I really love fall. I loved it even more when we lived in New Mexico. The pictures of the munchkins are from when we lived down there. I really love being able to wear cordorouy pants and long sleeve t's. I love making apple pie, soup and fresh bread for dinner. I love watching the leaves change colors.
As much as I love having my little miss home with me, I like having her in school routine. Even though the official end of summer isn't until a few weeks away, I always say goodbye to it the first day of school. So, goodbye summer, and Fall I welcome you with open arms!

Something to post

Right now I have lots of things that I'm working on, but nothing that I can show yet. Baby gifts, Christmas presents and birthday treats. I really want to try and post every day this week as part of getting back into our school routine. School starts next Monday, Ugh! I've really enjoyed having my daughter home and the care free lazy days that we had. All the traveling, the days at the pool, the projects, the not having to go anywhere if we didn't want to. I guess all good things really do have to end at some point! Here for your viewing pleasure is a set of Rapunzel felt finger puppets I made not too long ago fora friends birthday. In our house we love finger puppets, especially the Folkmanis ones. I think last count we had 47.

Moms tiles

Here is a picture of the tiles that my Mom just finished making in pottery class. She's always been one of those amazing women who just seems to pick up on crafty stuff and know how to do it, whatever "it" is, right away. I think these are amazing and I am continually inspired by her!

Finger puppet

This is my newest knitted project, a finger puppet. She's being sent as a thank you gift to an extremely special person.
I love knitted projects that only take a couple of hours to whip up. She was fun to make. I've never had to increase stitches before and I was able to figure it out. I'm always excited when I can do things by following a diagram. That's always been difficult for me. The eyes look like google eyes in the picture, but they're actually small bits of felt. It's "sew" hard sewing such itty bitty pieces of felt. It just falls apart when you stick the needle through.
For those of you waiting for your amazing buttons to come to you, I'm still waiting on a couple of people to send theirs in...you know who you are! I promise it's worth the wait, these are amazing!!
