Dia de Los Muertos

Some of the things in life that I have always loved have been the amazing folk art of Mexico and the celebration of Dia de los Muertos. This past week my littlest sister has been in town staying with me. I have found that if she has a project to focus on our lives run a lot smoother. Rather than pulling out the same old things I thought this time we would try something we've never done before. At the library I found a book about crafts for Day of the dead. In it was instructions on how to make embossed painted tin. I have always loved that! I have vintage pieces hanging in my kitchen from my Grandmother. We copied the pattern, bought the supplies and went to town. I could not be happier with the result. I'm already thinking of more ideas I want to do with these. Maybe make a set to nail into the front door or up on the clothesline? The options are endless. I think this year we will also be making a small shrine to our deceased relatives to celebrate. And of course it will include some of these. If only I had more hours in the day!

Lunch time

I can't even express how badly I want these. Look at that baby elephant sandwich! It's ok to spend 20 plus shipping in order to make the sack lunch cute, right?

Zzzzz

Why can't the moments leading up to these moments be as peaceful?

Socktastic

I have the most amazing and talented friends EVER! Today my dear friend Elizabeth completely blew my mind by giving me a late birthday /early Christmas present. 24 itty bitty hand knitted socks. I LOVE them! A long time ago we both took a sock class. Right after we started it my baby got really sick, so I had to stop. I never learned how to knit a sock. She on the other hand went to town on them and makes them by the dozens. I had told her when we did the class that I had a goal one day of making 24 little socks to use for an advent calendar. I am still stunned that she took the time to do this and that she remembered my goal. Thank goodness for the people we have in our lives who make our existence more beautiful and enjoyable. Thank you Elizabeth!!!!!

Seriously?!

Can I just say how much I love the randomness of ebay? Last weekend I went to a garage sale and found a walmart bag full of 80's plastic glo worms for a buck. There's nothing that great about them. They're all in pretty good condition, so I thought I would list all 15 of the separately on ebay. Here are the 2 that brought me the most money. They both went to a person in France who also purchased 3 others that I had listed. He payed 46$ for the prayer one and 26$ for the butterfly one. Plus shipping all the way to France on top of that. I am thrilled that I was able to help fulfill this persons qwest to complete their glo worm collection.
